Complications - Iliacomesenteric venous bypass in superior mesenteric artery occlusion—Vascular Surgery

  1. Intraoperative complications

Acute thrombosis of the superior mesenteric artery

    • Thrombectomy, immediate reconstruction

    Lack of bypass vein

    • Delicate retrograde thrombectomy with a ring stripper, or a synthetic graft
  2. Postoperative complications

    Hemodynamically significant postoperative bleeding

    • Surgical revision
    • Stabilization of coagulation

Recurrent occlusion with acute mesenteric ischemia.

    • Revision of the vascular repair
    • If intestinal ischemia is irreversible → segmental resection, possibly Hartmann procedure with colostomy
