The Kocher Maneuver allows mobilization of the duodenum. The structures posterior to the duodenum are dissected and mobilized.
The Kocher maneuver of the duodenum is necessary in:
- Assessment of the duodenal, pancreatic, and retroduodenal lymph node situation.
- For easier closure of the duodenal stump or duodenotomy.
- To facilitate the anastomosis in conduits.
- A prerequisite for a tension-free gastric conduit.
A technical step in epigastric procedures:
- Traverso-Longmire procedure (PPPD) with T-drain
- Gastrectomy
- Esophageal resection
- Pancreaticoduodenectomy, pylorus-preserving, partial
- Duodenotomy as standard access to intraduodenal structures
